From deleted30/deleted (5,049) Since it was Katelan's idea for an artist interview she was givent he first interview here's what we have: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ART TO VIEW? I'm inspired by so much. I feel like I'm constantly looking at something. Of course as you can see by my work I love the art nouveau art deco period. Something brilliant happened in the early 1900's that brought the idea of artistic versatility to life. Art became graphic, feminine, Illustration became art. Many books in my apartment are that of Mucha, Klimt, Schiele etc. That is probably the most prominent influence in my work. Other than that I love looking at illustration. I adore Kent Williams, Polly Becker, Dave McKean and Marshall Arisman. I feel that there is so much more going on with art today that I'm finding that I enjoy so much more. I've been getting more and more into abstracts and of course I'm always a sucker for a good photograph. Nothing captures the essence of memory like a photgraph. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ART TO CREATE? I love working with mixed media. To me there is something very organic about taking discarded items and recycling old pictures into new works. I almost feel that if I havn't destroyed the apartment that really I havn't been doing enough on the art. Also I find that working with photoshop has become an immensley valuable asset to me. There are some things that you can do on a computer that you just can't do by hand. WHAT ART WOULD YOU LOVE TO CREATE THAT YOU HAVN'T TRIED YET? I used to have dreams that I was a sculpter. I dreamed about sautering (sp) metal, working in clay, using found objects etc....I dabbled in it a little only to have my heart more than a bit broken. I wasn't good at metal work and my edges were never smooth. Other than that I've tried most things and just sort of found my niche in mixed media. AT WHAT LEVEL IN YOUR FIELD ARE YOU? I have been lucky. I work as a professional illustrator for magazines, books etc. This year has been gracious to me with work. I struggled for a while after graduating and even went through a year long creative slump. But now things have been picking up and I really feel that I'm track. Illustration is very unstable. One minute you have 6 jobs due at the same time the next it's a dry spell for two months. The key is constant promoting. I send out mailers every couple of months while my rep sends out booklets of my work. It's a constant struggle to stay on top and keep making new fresh work. Please feel free to ask her any questions you have and get to know one another!! Read 1,357 times
