Jason- Instead of pasting the squares onto a white background, I would cut out the head as cleanly as possible and create a brush, then use it on a layer of stars or other ethereal background. I look forward to seeing the results.

I think you misunderstand, the pasting of the sqaures is to show the work in progress, not some kind of underlying artistic statement, just trying to show where it started from and where it is heading towards....

....this is a simple practice in digital painting. Something that I haven't been doing enough of lately(a lot of layout, but no "painting"), which is also why I chose a relatively well known image. That way everyone knows what it's supposed to look like, and can point out where I'm heading wrong/right, and offer up criticism in general.

Personaly, there are a couple of spots bothering me right now, and I'm waiting to see if I get called on them......

The technique used, was to put down a black background, block it in with greys, then use the dodge/burn tools to shade and highlight, and the smudge to blend.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you. People post here with all levels of competence.

I wasn't insulted.

Looked over your work, some nice works. I'm especially liking the self portrait.

You're right about the differing levels of experience here, but we all are moving forward.

Wow I just commented on a PS created spiral thing and then open to this! You are making me think that PS can help a person do some amazing stuff! I wish you had perhaps only shown 3 shots of the progress so we could see the detail better. Nicely done. Carole

Yeah, I agree, less would have been better. The two smaller ones, at the bottom of the four, could have been expressed with only one. There was a lot of smaller details added to that one, but it kind of gets lost at this resolution.
